Description:
A CO2 fire extinguishing system is a type of fire suppression
system that uses carbon dioxide gas (CO2) to extinguish fires. This
technology is commonly used to protect sensitive facilities such as
data centers, electrical equipment rooms, and other locations where
water or other types of fire suppression chemicals can cause harm.
The traditional CO2 fire extinguisher system consists of a storage
cylinder or bank of cylinders carrying pressurized CO2 gas, coupled
pipework, and discharge nozzles. When the system is turned on
manually or automatically, the CO2 gas is released from the
cylinders and channeled to the discharge nozzles, where it is
directed toward the fire.
When CO2 gas is emitted, the oxygen in the air is replaced,
resulting in an oxygen-deficient condition that suffocates the
fire. CO2 gas can also be used to successfully put out a fire by
absorbing heat and lowering the temperature of the surrounding air.
